I'm not sure who they are. I'm not sure where they are - or are going. I'm even less sure why they are moving or migrating - war, violence, persecution, hunger, earthquakes, and the list goes on.
But I know they're refugees - or about to become refugees. Or were refugees, and now they have to go back, because not every nation welcomes the unwelcome.
People flee their country - Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, Colombia, Ukraine - becoming asylum-seekers abroad looking for refugee status.
You can't see the faces - the wrinkles or the tears or the crevices - but the landscape must have a soul. That's the paradox: a tourist wouldn't mind being there. However rudimentary, the scenery looks gorgeous.
Where some people struggle for survival, others would love to visit and enjoy a nice walk...
We can't ID any one the refugees. Maybe it adds a sense of universality to the experience. Anyone on this planet is at risk. Beware, one day, we could all become refugees.

"Refugees" hopes to capture the poignant intersection of human displacement, the resilience of refugees, and the contrasting perceptions of landscapes shaped by privilege and adversity. It encourages reflection on the global refugee crisis and challenges viewers to consider the complexities of migration and belonging. The landscape is intentionally vague, reflecting my disregard for it. The refugees, however, are portrayed as minuscule—a poignant reminder of how little the world cares.
